Ephemeral Beauty Sample Book 02: Knit investigates the intersection of natural dyeing and embellishment to elevate traditional knitwear. Anchored in cable knitting—a structural technique developed in the early 20th-century by Irish fishing communities to reinforce and embellish fabric through twisted stitch patterns—this collection combines historical craft with contemporary painting and textiles influences. Inspired by Helen Frankenthaler’s stained colors and India Flint’s botanical imprints, the compiled swatches demonstrate various surface manipulation techniques including flower pounding, duplicate stitch, eco-printing, and embroidery to create unexpected textural and color effects. By combining these historic and contemporary influences, the book offers fresh inspiration for designing new knitwear or revitalizing old pieces.
